Allen’s Manix Store

Posted on December 5, 2022December 5, 2022 by Karen McIlwain

The Manix Store was built in 1902, and is located at 10 Main Street, Augusta, Montana. Don Allen bought the store in 1974, adding Allen’s to the name.  Susan, the oldest of 9 kids, started running the store in 1976 and has been running it ever since.

Although there have been updates throughout the years, they have retained its rustic appearance, including the old wood stove and having the original cash register on display.  Allen’s Manix offers many items including groceries, hardware, hunting and fishing supplies, clothing, jewelry, and souvenirs, with the slogan “If we don’t have it, you don’t need it.”

Steve Ford became an essential part of the family after delivering Pepsi to the store in the 80’s.  He now makes several goodies sold at the store, including cookies, donuts, sandwiches and pizzas. All of which can be special ordered at any time.

Many have considered Allen’s Manix, the information center of the town, always having room for signs and posters in their windows.

Allen’s Manix will be holding its annual Open House on December 10th from 10am – 2pm, with discounts on all non-food items.  There will be specials from December 1st through the end of the year, but you won’t get better deals than you will on the 4 hours of the Open House.

Stop in during the Open House and enjoy the comfort of family and friends, not to mention the delicious food that will be shared from 11-2, including lobster bisque, meatballs, sandwiches, wings, pizza, all made at the store.

Susan Ford always shows pride in her little family-oriented store, which is an important part of her family history.  Many hours have been spent with family helping in the store, including grandchildren helping with the shelves.
